What is a Doula?

A doula is a trained professional who supports birthing individuals and their families before, during, and after childbirth. Doulas focus on emotional, physical, and informational support—helping families feel prepared, confident, and cared for every step of the way.

While they are not medical providers, doulas use evidence-based practices to help parents understand their options, reduce stress, and navigate the journey into parenthood. Their support is tailored to each family’s needs, ensuring that both the birthing person and their partner feel empowered and informed throughout the experience.

Doula Services We Offer

At The Up Center, our doulas provide personalized, in-home support at every stage of the journey:

  • Prenatal Support: Education on pregnancy, birth options, and planning for labor

  • Labor & Delivery Support: Emotional and physical support during childbirth (when allowed)

  • Postpartum Support: Help with infant feeding, newborn care, and emotional well-being during recovery

We meet families where they are—literally and emotionally—offering judgment-free guidance and a calm, caring presence throughout the process.

Why Choose a Doula?

Having a doula by your side can lead to more positive birth experiences and outcomes. Studies show that families supported by doulas are more likely to feel satisfied with their birth, experience fewer complications, and build stronger bonds with their babies.

Doulas help you:

  • Understand your choices and advocate for what matters to you

  • Feel more calm and confident during labor

  • Receive emotional and physical support tailored to your unique needs

Most of all, a doula helps you feel heard, respected, and supported through one of the biggest transitions of your life.

Who is Eligible?

Our Doula services are available to families enrolled in The Up Center’s Parents as Teachers (PAT) program. If you’re pregnant and interested in support, we can help determine your eligibility and connect you to the right services.
