What Does a Sponsored Home Provider Do?

Sponsored Home providers offer daily support in a shared home environment. This includes helping with routines, building life skills, and supporting each person’s goals and independence.

Who Can Become a Provider?

Individuals or families who are ready to open their home and provide a safe, supportive place to live. Providers must have a high school diploma or equivalent, complete training, and meet state requirements to ensure quality care. Care is provided by trained adults only.

Who does the Sponsored Homes program serve?

The Sponsored Homes program serves adults (18+) in Virginia with a documented developmental or intellectual disability. Individuals must be eligible for or already receiving the Medicaid Community Living Waiver.

Who can become a Sponsored Home provider?

Sponsored Home providers are individuals or families in Virginia who are ready to open their home and support an adult with a disability. Sponsors must have a high school diploma or equivalent, complete training, and meet all state requirements. Care is provided by trained adults only.

Is experience required to become a Sponsored Home provider?

Yes. Sponsors must have at least four years of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities and complete our full training program.

Is there a cost for training or certification?

No. Training and certification are free. All sponsors complete required training before they begin. If you have completed similar training, some sessions may be waived with proof.

How long does the certification process take?

The timeline can vary, but training is usually completed within the first 30 days. During this time, sponsors submit required documents, complete a background check, and provide proof of a Community Living Waiver. Our team supports you throughout the process.

How are individuals matched with Sponsored Home providers?

We match individuals and sponsors based on needs, personality, and shared interests to create a safe and stable home environment.

What support do Sponsored Home providers receive?

Sponsors receive ongoing training, regular check-ins, and 24/7 on-call support from The Up Center.
