What Is a Donor Advised Fund?

A Donor Advised Fund, or DAF, is a simple and flexible way to give. It allows you to recommend grants from a fund you have already set aside for charitable giving.

If you have a DAF through a financial institution, community foundation, or investment firm, you can use it to support The Up Center’s programs and services.

DAF gifts help provide mental health care, housing and financial counseling, foster care support, mentoring, and early childhood services for people in our community.

How to Give Through Your Donor Advised Fund

2. Recommend your contribution
Choose an amount and, if you wish, note the program or area you want your charitable dollars to support.

What is a Donor Advised Fund?

Can I choose where my DAF contribution goes?

Yes. While you may indicate a program or service area, unrestricted agency funding gives The Up Center the flexibility to address the most pressing needs across all services.

Can I use my Donor Advised Fund provider to give?

Yes. You can direct your Donor Advised Fund contribution through most sponsoring organizations. The easiest way to get started is by using the DAFpay tool on this page to search for your provider and recommend your contribution to The Up Center.

Tax benefits typically occur when assets are added to your DAF. Please consult your financial or tax advisor.

Are there tax advantages to giving through a Donor Advised Fund?

When you later recommend a contribution to The Up Center, those charitable dollars are put to work in our community. What is a grant recommendation?

A grant recommendation is the process of advising your Donor Advised Fund sponsor to send charitable dollars from your fund to a nonprofit organization. While the sponsoring organization processes the payment, the funds come from your Donor Advised Fund.

How long does processing take?

Timing depends on your DAF provider. Most contributions are received within a few weeks.
